Police use Taser on girl, 14, in altercation at Monterey County Fair

A police officer used a Taser on a 14-year-old girl at the Monterey County Fair after she jumped on him while he was trying to pin down another teen who bit him, authorities said Tuesday.

After the incident, the girl was taken to a hospital and then released, said Lt. Leslie Sonné of the Monterey Police Department.

An investigation into the officer’s use of force will be conducted.

The scene unfolded about 9:30 p.m. Saturday when the officer attempted to detain a 16-year-old girl who tried to fight with him and another officer, police said.

The 16-year-old girl had clawed and bitten the 14-year-old girl, Sonné said. The officer tried to separate the girls, but the 16-year-old bit his knee cap, according to police.

The older girl, who was not injured, was cited on suspicion of battery on a peace officer, battery on the 14-year-old and resisting arrest.

Sonné said the younger girl was carrying pepper spray, less than an ounce of marijuana and a pill without a prescription. She was cited on suspicion of battery on a peace officer and resisting arrest.
