Man gets 2 years in prison for school lunch bribery case
The former food services director for Lawndale Elementary School District has been sentenced to two years in prison for accepting at least $10,000 in bribes from a school lunch pizza vendor.
Arturo Macias Nuno, 32, was found guilty earlier this month of four felony counts of accepting a bribe, according to the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office. Authorities say he requested and took bribes that totaled at least $10,000 from Oct. 1, 2010, to July 31, 2012, from a now-defunct restaurant that sold pizza for school lunches.
Nuno demanded that the owner of the restaurant pay him 50 cents per pizza in exchange for the school lunch contract, authorities said.
The Torrance jury deliberated just three hours after the nine-day trial, according to the district attorney’s office.
A restitution hearing is scheduled for Oct. 15.
