Man in wheelchair dies after being struck by SUV in Garden Grove
A 55-year-old man died Friday night after being struck while he was crossing a Garden Grove street in a wheelchair, authorities said Saturday.
Leonard Christian was wheeling himself across the eastbound lanes of Chapman Avenue near West Street around 11 p.m. when he was hit by an SUV, according to Garden Grove police.
Christian was not in the marked crosswalk. The driver, Juan Lopez of Santa Ana, did not appear to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol and has not been cited for a traffic violation, police said.
