Man plows car into Starbucks, flees scene with child in his arms
A man with a small child was apprehended by police Thursday night after he plowed his car into a Starbucks in Newport Beach and fled the scene with the youngster, according to television news footage.
The man jumped out of the vehicle near Campus Drive and MacArthur Boulevard and ran for about a mile with the child in his arms before he was caught by police, according to footage broadcast on KTLA-TV Channel 5.
The footage showed the man and child being examined by firefighters as officers stood by. Their condition was not immediately known.
The vehicle smashed through the front of the store around 9:30 p.m. A tow truck had arrived on the scene to remove the vehicle. No additional details were available.
