Man sentenced to prison in fatal shooting of Mexican actor in Downey

A 34-year-old man was sentenced Wednesday to 25 years to life in prison for shooting a Mexican actor to death in his Downey home, officials said.
Larry Paul Trujillo pleaded no contest in May to the murder of 53-year-old Hermilio Franco, whom he shot in the chest in November 2010 during an attempted home robbery.
Franco and his wife awoke after Trujillo and an unknown second suspect entered the Downey home, according to the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office.
Franco, who appeared in various Mexican films, grabbed his gun and shot Trujillo in the neck, paralyzing him. The second suspect escaped, but Trujillo was unable to move.
The sequence of events leading to Franco’s death after he shot Trujillo are unclear, according to the district attorney’s office.
