Police are searching for a suspect who stabbed two men, one fatally, Saturday night near a busy intersection in the Silver Lake area in what may have been a road rage incident, authorities said.

The attack occurred about 7 p.m. near Sunset Boulevard and Hoover Street, said Sgt. Frank Gonzalez of the Los Angeles Police Department. Officers in the area were flagged down by one of the victims who told them that he and his friend, who was unconscious, had just been stabbed, he said.

Both men were rushed to L.A. County-USC Medical Center, where one of the victims was later pronounced dead from multiple stab wounds in the torso, Gonzalez said. The other victim was treated for stab wounds to his hands.

Those wounds appeared to be “self-defense wounds,” Gonzalez said. “He was trying to block from being stabbed.”

The victims were in a vehicle at some point but it wasn’t clear if they were in or outside the vehicle when the stabbings occurred, Gonzalez said.

Police said the suspect was last seen heading west on Sunset Boulevard in a black SUV.

It is possible the stabbing was a road rage incident, Gonzalez said. But it is still unclear whether the victims and suspect knew each other, he said.

Anyone with information about the stabbing is asked to call the LAPD Northeast Division’s homicide detectives at (323) 561-3421. Those who wish to remain anonymous can call Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-8477.
