MMA fighter pleads not guilty in police standoff case
Mixed martial arts fighter Jason Miller pleaded not guilty Monday to resisting arrest after barricading himself in his Mission Viejo home and live-tweeting his standoff with police.
Jason “Mayhem” Miller faces one misdemeanor count of resisting or obstructing a police officer after refusing to surrender to authorities Oct. 9, according to the Orange County Superior Court officials.
Miller didn’t live-tweet his hearing -- something that would not have sat well with a judge or bailiff.
But he took to Twitter afterward, tweeting, “Court went well. I have faith in America and California. I have Faith.”
Miller also tweeted at the Orange County Sheriff’s Department, saying that he planned to send an itemized report of damages to his home stemming from the standoff.
“To whom do i send this report? Also their address, sincerely, Jason Miller,” he asked on Twitter.
Earlier this month, Miller ran inside the home and refused to come out after officers showed up, said sheriff’s Lt. Mark Kiernan.
Orange County sheriff’s deputies said they went to his home about 9:50 a.m. to arrest him on warrants in connection with domestic violence, stalking and a court order violation.
Hunkered down in his home, the mixed martial artist tweeted the incident as it unfolded, telling followers, “If you would like to see this drama unfold, please come” to the address.
Hours later, SWAT members broke through the front door.
Miller ran out the back door and surrendered, according to the Sheriff’s Department.
