Mother arrested on suspicion of drowning young son
A 28-year-old Oceanside woman was arrested Friday night on suspicion of killing her 22-month-old son.
Veronica Rivas admitted drowning her son, Elijah, the Oceanside Police Department said in a statement.
Rivas reportedly was in a custody battle with her estranged husband.
Police had gone to Rivas’ home on Wednesday night after a relative reported finding her unconscious and the child lifeless. Rivas was taken to a hospital for treatment.
She was booked into county jail Friday night on a murder charge. More charges may be added later, police said.
Rivas is being held without bail and is set for arraignment next week, according to jail records.
