A nurse who had sex with a corpse at Sherman Oaks Hospital was sentenced to two years in county jail, prosecutors said.
Alejandro Razo, 62, of Reseda also was ordered Thursday to serve 180 days of the two-year sentence under supervised release, according to the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office.
During his release, he must attend weekly counseling sessions and sex offender meetings, prosecutors said.
Razo was found guilty June 26 of having sex with the body of an 82-year-old woman who died of natural causes at the hospital, prosecutors said.
He was alone with the body when he was assigned in January 2013 to prepare it for the mortuary, prosecutors said.
Another nurse apparently walked into the room to find Razo with his pants down as he had sex with the corpse.
Soon after the discovery, Razo was arrested on suspicion of state health and safety code violations. Prosecutors said they used DNA evidence to convict Razo.
He had been a nurse for 20 years and worked for different health care facilities, including Sherman Oaks Hospital, prosecutors said.
His nursing license was suspended but not revoked, said district attorney spokesman Ricardo Santiago.
Razo was ordered to stay away from the hospital during his release, he said.
