Burned body in Playa Vista chained to fence, may be suicide, cops say
Los Angeles police say a burned body found in Playa Vista on Friday may have been the result of a suicide.
The body of a severely burned adult male – possibly a transient – was found chained to a chain link fence behind an abandoned building next to the 405 Freeway about 7:15 a.m. in the 5700 block of Mesmer Avenue, said LAPD Cmdr. Andrew Smith. A gas can was found nearby, he added.
Los Angeles police homicide detectives cordoned off the area Friday morning. The body was so badly burned the man could not be immediately identified.
Authorities believe the man may have been a transient because they are known to frequent the area, police said.
