Traffic accidents soar overnight as rain hits the Southland

The storm that swept into the Southland on Saturday night created havoc on area roads, more than doubling the number of crashes from the same time period last week, a CHP officer said.

From 10 p.m. Saturday to 4 a.m. Sunday, there were 150 crashes, said Officer Francisco Villalobos, compared to 65 last week.
Villalobos said two accidents were fatal: a single-vehicle crash about 2:20 a.m. on the westbound Highway 134 at the Pacific ramp in Glendale, and a pedestrian hit by a pickup Saturday night on Avenue N8 in the Lake Los Angeles area of Lancaster.
The storm is expected to dump several inches of rain in two waves. The second wave should hit Sunday night.
