Man who was shot by Redondo police is charged with assaulting an officer
A 36-year-old man who was shot after leading Redondo Beach police officers on a chase that spilled into Los Angeles has been charged with assaulting a peace officer, prosecutors said Tuesday.
Thomas Dallaire of Walnut is accused of driving his car at an officer shortly before he was shot Saturday, according to a statement issued by the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office.
Dallaire was suspected of car theft when police began chasing him shortly before 6 p.m. Saturday, authorities said. During the pursuit, prosecutors say, Dallaire struck another vehicle, then drove in the direction of a police officer.
The officer opened fire, wounding Dallaire. The chase ended a short time later when Dallaire’s car malfunctioned at South Leland and West 17th streets near San Pedro High School, prosecutors said.
Dallaire is also charged with evasion, taking a vehicle without consent and being involved in a hit-and-run crash, prosecutors said. He has previous convictions for burglary and grand theft, prosecutors said.
No officers were injured in the chase, according to a Redondo Beach police spokesman.
