San Diego County has 10 measles patients; 9 weren’t vaccinated

San Diego County now has 10 confirmed cases of measles, all with ties to Disneyland, the county Health and Human Services Agency announced late Thursday. Nine were persons who had not been vaccinated.

Six of the 10 were people who came to the Sharp Rees-Stealy urgent care clinic in La Mesa on Wednesday, causing a five-hour shutdown of the clinic.

Along with an updated number, county health officials released a list of places where the 10 persons had visited during “times of possible exposure.”

The places were: the city of San Diego operations building (Jan. 12, 13 and 14); the CVS pharmacy in El Cajon (Jan. 14); Vons in El Cajon (Jan. 14); the La Mesa clinic (Jan. 3 and Jan. 14); Rite Aid Pharmacy in Alpine (Jan. 13); Trader Joe’s in La Mesa (Jan. 12); Absolute Personal Fitness in Julian (Jan. 9); Julian Fitness Center in Julian (Jan. 9); and Parkway Plaza Mall in El Cajon, near the GameStop, Sunglasses Hut and carousel (Dec. 29).

Most of the vulnerable times at the spots were in the afternoon, although the city operations building, La Mesa clinic, and Parkway Plaza Mall also included morning hours.

Dr. Wilma Wooten, the county public health director, said anyone who visited those locations on those dates and times should watch for symptoms, including fever, rash, cough, runny nose and\or red eyes.

“The best prevention measure for measles is to get vaccinated,” Wooten said.
