A 16-year-old boy remains in serious condition after being assaulted and run over early Saturday outside a restaurant in Monterey Park, police said.

Sgt. Rick Munder said the investigation is at a standstill because the victim’s condition at the moment made it impossible for him to speak to detectives.

“The victim is not able to talk yet,” he said.

Police found the teenager, who was wearing women’s clothing, about 2:30 a.m. in the 3700 block of Ramona Boulevard near the parking lot of Luminarias restaurant, Munder said.

He was assaulted and struck by a car, Munder said. The driver fled before police were called to the area. Police do not have a description of the boy’s attacker and the vehicle.

Family members pleaded Monday outside Monterey Park police headquarters for the public’s help and asked the driver to come forward.

“If the person who did it is watching, can you please turn yourself in,” his uncle, Fernando, said. “My nephew is only 16 years old and he has his whole life ahead of him. I don’t understand how anybody could just leave a human being on the side of the road and drive off.”

Detectives are looking for witnesses.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Monterey Park Police Department at (626) 573-1311.
