Twentynine Palms couple who allegedly beat 4-month-old son are arrested
San Bernardino County sheriff’s detectives arrested a Twentynine Palms couple this week for allegedly beating their 4-month-old son.
The infant’s parents, Alec Daniel Bailey, 20, and Autumn Raven Evers, 24, were arrested Tuesday, said Deputy Adam Cervantes, a spokesman for the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department.
On July 20, sheriff’s deputies received a medical aid call for an unresponsive 4-month-old in the 6300 block of Smoke Tree Avenue in Twentynine Palms. The boy was taken to the naval hospital there, then transfered to Loma Linda Children’s Hospital where he was evaluated by forensic pediatricians, authorities said.
During that evaluation, doctors discovered that he had multiple fractures and suffered from “extreme malnutrition,” the Sheriff’s Department said in a statement.
Bailey and Evers were arrested on suspicion of willful cruelty to a child and failure to provide for a child. They were booked in the Morongo Basin Jail in lieu of $100,000 bail.
The boy was placed under the care of the San Bernardino County Department of Children and Family Services, Cervantes said.
Cervantes said there did not appear to have been any prior reports of abuse regarding the boy or his parents. The infant’s condition was unknown.
