A Los Angeles man was charged Friday in the break-in of a Venice home that forced its female resident to escape to the roof.

The Los Angeles County district attorney’s office says Christian Broyles Hicks, 29, faces one felony count of first-degree burglary.

The criminal complaint also alleges that Hicks was convicted in 2008 of carrying a loaded, unregistered handgun and the injury of a spouse, cohabitant or child’s parent in 2011.

Hicks is accused of breaking into the Venice home on Wednesday while the resident was there. Prosecutors say the woman fled to the roof, where she called police.

If convicted of the burglary charge and sentencing enhancements, Hicks faces a maximum penalty of eight years in state prison. His recommended bail is $70,000.
