Thousands of DWP customers remain without power after wind storms cause outages

More than 5,200 customers remained without power Friday evening after heavy winds caused outages in several neighborhoods across the city, according to the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power.

Crews are working “as diligently and as safely as possible under these heavy wind conditions,” the agency said in a statement.

“The wind storms typically result in power outages as dried palm fronds, tree branches, downed trees and other debris fall and make contact with power lines.”

Throughout the day, crews had tended to outages that at one point affected as many as 23,000 customers.

As of 6 p.m., communities with the highest number of impacted customers included Reseda (1,783) and Hollywood (1,432).
