Lawyer shot dead on front porch of his Bay Area home
Reporting from el Cerrito, calif. — Authorities are searching for a gunman who fatally shot a prominent attorney in front of his San Francisco Bay Area home.
Police in El Cerrito said 62-year-old James G. Gilliland Jr. was found on his front porch Thursday night with multiple gunshot wounds.
They said Gilliand had just returned home when he was confronted by an unknown suspect.
No motive has been released.
Gilliland was a partner in a San Francisco firm where he represented high-technology companies on various issues.
His colleagues said he was a great attorney who had been successfully trying cases in federal and state courts around the country for 35 years.
