Two people were killed Saturday in a glider crash in rural eastern San Diego County, according to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection.

The crash occurred shortly after noon at the Jacumba airstrip. The glider crashed nose-down, Cal-Fire said.

The Jacumba area, in the southeastern part of the county, is popular among glider enthusiasts because its wind currents assist in the lift needed to keep the craft aloft.
