The Matchbox and Hot Wheels toy cars that once fueled dreams of adulthood might drive adults to seek lost treasure in the attics of their youth. With Hot Wheels celebrating 50 years of business, and Matchbox its 65th year, gocompare.com, an insurance valuation website, set out to determine what classic toy cars were worth today. While the top ten are worth thousands, a rare Volkswagen Microbus is worth over $100,000. Like other collectible items, they’re worth more in the original packaging, but that was never and will never be as fun to play with, much like those real cars wasting away under cover in garages.
