Readers React: If the Lewinsky scandal happened today
I read Meghan Daum’s article on Monday about Bill Clinton’s Monica Lewinsky scandal of the late 1990s. (“The last of the Monica meme,” Opinion, May 9)
I was not too surprised to note Daum’s view that the Lewinsky “scandal” would not seem so horrible or humiliating if it happened today. It is quite a testament to our present standards that are so influenced by the 24/7 news media, with our daily dose of scandalous behavior by the famous and not-so-famous people in society.
I guess that if things smell bad enough for a long enough period of time, we can get used to the stench.
