Readers React: The Times overinflates ‘Deflategate’
To the editor: Every day, 49 million Americans, including 16 million children, lack the means to get enough nutritious food to prevent hunger. About 20 trillion pounds of carbon dioxide are being absorbed by our oceans every year, a chemical change never before seen in recorded human history.
The world’s richest individuals hide trillions of dollars to avoid paying taxes, many times what’s necessary to alleviate global poverty.
And what’s the main headline on the front page of Thursday’s Los Angeles Times? “Deflategate.” (“NFL’s ‘Deflategate’ implicates Patriots quarterback Tom Brady,” May 6)
It’s no wonder more and more people are turning to alternative news sources to find out what’s really going on.

To the editor: This is a defining moment for the NFL. Either cheating is OK, or it is not.
There is no way to judge the specific effects of deflating the balls. But still, the league should vacate the win by the New England Patriots in January’s AFC championship game. Add some extra punishment for Patriots quarterback Tom Brady for failing to assist the NFL’s investigation.
