Readers React: ‘Redskins’ is no slur
So The Times and the Democrats agree that the name of the Washington Redskins is racially insensitive and should be changed. What a surprise. (“Cut your losses, Washington Redskins, and sack the slur,” Editorial, May 25)
Consider this, if you believe the name is pejorative: This is what the team is referring to itself as. It would be similar to calling the team the Washington Morons.
I don’t think they would label themselves as such. As with all NFL teams, the owners and players are proud to associate themselves with the team brand, usually named after the majestic or the courageous.
There a few higher compliments to an individual or group than to have a group of strong and dedicated men or women fight for glory under the banner of their namesake.
