Opinion: More hot water for Lunada Bay surfer ‘gang”

To the editor: As a resident of this beautiful area, I deplore the non-action of the city council, manager, and police of Palos Verdes Estates on the surfer gang issue, and question their judgment, wisdom, courage, and willingness to protect the public. (“Surfer group again in hot water,” Aug. 8)

It is not only that a group of bullies has for decades seized public property and even built on it — in the case of the stone fort — and continued to threaten people who are not in their circle.

It is also the question of whether this belligerence reverberates outside the surfing area.

Hopefully, the class action suit will remove this ugly and stressful underbelly of Palos Verdes Estates.

To the editor: These guys have gotten away with this for as long as anyone can remember.

I’m a lifelong 50-something surfer and never dared to enter the water there.

Perhaps Steve Lopez will stop there on his trip down the coast and set these guys straight.
