Sen. Tom Coburn has prostate cancer surgery
Sen. Tom Coburn (R-Okla.) is recovering from prostate cancer surgery, his office said Tuesday.
Coburn spokesman John Hart said the senator underwent the procedure this week. The cancer is in the early stages, he said.
“He is expected to make a full recovery and return to his full-time duties later this month,” Hart said.
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) announced the news on the Senate floor. Reid noted that Coburn had been diagnosed with cancer twice before.
“Those of us who know him know with certainty that this fighter will beat it again,” he said.
Coburn was first elected to the Senate in 2004. He has said he does not plan to run for reelection in 2016.
