Police seek Newport bank robber who wore black Prada sunglasses
Police are looking for the man who robbed a Wells Fargo bank branch on East Coast Highway in Newport Beach on Monday morning.
The robber, described as in his mid-20s, was wearing a gray T-shirt and black Prada sunglasses when he entered the Wells Fargo bank in the 3600 block of East Coast Highway around 10:26 a.m., said Newport Beach police spokeswoman Jennifer Manzella.
He exited the branch after one minute without conducting a transaction.
He returned 10 minutes later and handed one of the tellers a note demanding cash, Manzella said.
The man did not appear to be armed. After obtaining the cash, he fled north on Orchid Avenue on foot, she said.
Police initially estimated that he stole $500 but after further investigation determined that number was incorrect. Manzella said she could not confirm the amount of money stolen.
