Either John Scandura misread the Bolsa Chica restoration environmental
impact report or was misquoted (“City board seeks approval for Bolsa
Chica restoration,” Dec. 14). Scandura expressed concern over urban
runoff from the Garden Grove-Wintersburg Flood Control Channel reaching
the nearby beach.
Of the seven alternative restoration plans outlined in the report, the
plan proposed by the multiagency steering committee has the Garden
Grove-Wintersburg Flood Control Channel completely bypassing the restored
wetlands.
No urban runoff from the Wintersburg Channel will enter the wetlands
and none will flow to the beach via the proposed inlet.
Runoff from the channel will continue to flow to Anaheim Bay and exit
to the ocean there, as it has done for many years.

Parking tickets not a welcomed holiday gift
Our family has lived in the Southeast portion of Huntington Beach for
30 years. For the past two years, the second and fourth Tuesdays of each
month have been designated “No Parking” to accommodate the city street
sweeper.
The fourth Tuesday of December happened to fall on the 26th, the day
after Christmas, and our cul-de-sac was filled with cars of relatives
from out of town. In the early morning hours of Dec. 26, six family
members were given a late Christmas gift -- a $32 ticket for parking on
this street. Who knows how many more citations were given in this large
tract.
This appears to have been a well-planned exercise by the city of
Huntington Beach to collect revenue. There were three traffic control
vehicles following the street sweeper with the traffic personnel writing
citations.
It appears the city is run by the Grinch.
I would like to know on what does the Grinch allocate these additional
revenues. I, for one, don’t see it anywhere.

DUI list restores reader’s faith
I was dismayed when I picked up this week’s edition of the Huntington
Beach Independent to find our former mayor’s picture adorning the front
page (“Newsmaker of the year,” Dec. 28).
Not only a corrupt politician, but one who reportedly threatens those
who point it out. However, after turning through a few pages, my
sensibilities were renewed.
There, in a near half page-article, my patriotism and optimism for the
future of our democracy were restored. A listing of my fellow citizens
who could someday be president of these United States -- the DUI arrests
list.
God bless America, God save Huntington Beach
