Girls water polo: Back Bay clash

IRVINE - The Newport Harbor girls 18-and-under water polo team

defeated Back Bay rival Corona del Mar, 10-2, in the championship game

Sunday at the University Tournament.

The Sailors, led by two-time All-CIF Southern Section Division I

selection and senior-to-be Katherine Belden, won the Sea View League

title last winter and finished 22-8 overall.

For CdM to reach the title game, it defeated San Clemente, 12-4,

Edison, 7-3, Tustin, 15-5, and University, 11-5.

Brittney Bowlus scored 21 goals to lead CdM, while Christina Hewko had

13 goals. Daniela DiGiacomo, Jessica Harkins and Vivian Liao scored three

goals each for CdM, while goalie Jessica Wells had 41 saves.
