CdM’s Fullen, Anae CIF Co-Players of Year

Corona del Mar High seniors Brittany Fullen and Jordan Anae, whose

four-year prep career knew nothing but winning CIF Southern Section

girls water polo titles, have been named Co-Players of the Year in

CIF Division II.

Fullen, a goalie, and Anae, who shared time at two-meters for the

Sea Kings (24-7), are among 17 Newport-Mesa players to earn All-CIF

recognition in three divisions.

Fullen, also the CIF Division II Player of the Year as a junior,

amassed 243 saves this season, helping Coach Aaron Chaney’s squad win

its third straight CIF Division II crown, its fourth straight section

title.

Anae scored a team-high 70 goals for the Sea Kings, who topped

Laguna Beach, 9-5, in the title game to extend their postseason

winning streak to 16. She was a second-team pick last season.

Also earning first-team honors from CdM are junior Camille Hewko,

a repeat first-team performer, and senior Katlin Kubas, who earned

second-team recognition last season.

Newport Harbor seniors Anne Belden, Ashling Taylor and Marissa

Wheeler, who helped the Sailors reach the CIF Division I title game,

are first-team honorees in Division I.

Seniors Sarah Bowman and Christine Twohig represent Costa Mesa on

the Division VI first team, after helping the Mustangs post a 20-10

record and earn a berth in the CIF Division VI quarterfinals.

Sophomores Cari Levine and Katie Indvik represent CdM on the

Division II second team.

Newport Harbor second-team choices are juniors Leah Robertson and

Kally Lucas, while Costa Mesa junior Annie Le is a second-team pick

in Division VI.

Allyson Hayes and Carley Millian, both Costa Mesa seniors, are

third-team honorees, as is Corona del Mar junior Ashley Chandler.

Hewko, who scored a team-high four goals in the 9-5 title-game

triumph, finished with 49 goals.

Kubas led the team in steals (51 through the semifinals) and

scored 22 goals.

Belden, a repeat first-team choice, had 88 goals for Newport

Harbor, which received 78 from Taylor and 37 from Wheeler. The senior

trio helped the Tars post a 27-4 record, including a league win over

eventual Division I champion Foothill to secure the Sea View League

championship.

Taylor was a second-team pick last season.

Lucas and Robertson had 52 and 45 goals, respectively, for Newport

Harbor, which won the Division I crown in 2004.

Indvik finished with 46 goals for CdM, while Levine had 21,

including two in the title game.

Bowman, another repeat firs-team choice, scored 11 goals in two

playoff games for Costa Mesa, the No. 4 seed.

Twohig was a third-team honoree in 2004.

The Mustangs were upset by Santa Monica, 7-6, to end their season.
