3 arrested on suspicion of burglary
Newport Beach police arrested three Los Angeles county residents
on suspicion of burglary after an Eastbluff resident came home to
find two burglars in his home Friday morning.
A resident on Onda Street called Newport Beach police at about
9:45 a.m. Friday to report that a woman had knocked on her door, then
acted surprised when the resident answered. A short time later, a
resident in the 700 block of Alder Street came home to find two men
apparently burglarizing his home, Lt. Mike McDermott said.
The men jumped of a second-floor balcony and were picked up by a
waiting car, police said. The car’s driver matched the description of
the woman in the Onda Street incident, McDermott said.
A motorcycle officer pulled the car over as it headed out of town
and arrested three people on suspicion of residential burglary.
Ashley Charlon James, 20, of Carson is being held in lieu of
$50,000 bail, police said. Allen Ray Smith Jr., 20, of Long Beach,
and Jamel Edward Hooper, 20, of Carson are being held without bail
because of possible parole violations, McDermott said.
