Candle ignites apartment fire
A candle left burning in a Costa Mesa apartment Monday started a fire
that caused about $12,000 in damage, fire officials said.
Costa Mesa firefighters responded to the fire at 1765 Santa Ana
Ave. shortly after 10 a.m., Battalion Chief Christopher Riley said.
Five units and a battalion chief command vehicle were at the scene
within five minutes and quickly suppressed the blaze, which was
limited to one bedroom of one apartment, Riley said.
No one was in the apartment at the time of the fire, and no one in
the building was injured, Riley said.
Damage to the building was estimated to be $10,000, with a loss of
about$2,000 to the contents of the apartment, Riley said.
