THEATER:Gallimaufry group turns three
Time flies when you’re having fun, and for the Gallimaufry Performing Arts group in Laguna Beach, it must be speeding by at a bullet’s pace.
“We are just celebrating our third birthday and marveling at our growth,” says Steve Josephson, the company’s artistic director. “In this short amount of time we have produced 33 separate events for audiences in excess of 35,000.”
So what’s next for the versatile arts troupe?
“We plan to continue in the traditions that has made us so popular,” Josephson promises.
Gallimaufry will, once again, present two Dance Days and Songs in the Sand at Laguna’s Main Beach, two staged concerts of Broadway musicals, a summer family musical, two plays, two Lagunatunes Community Chorus concerts, performances by the new Gallimaufry & Greene contemporary dance company and, Josephson adds, maybe a few surprises.
“We also are committed to continuing our educational programs,” the director notes. “Gallimaufry currently is operating after-school classes at both Top of the world and El Morro elementary schools and the Boys and Girls Club of Laguna Beach.
“Our ‘next generation’ of the Generation GAP [Gallimaufry’s self-producing teen theater company] also is well under way and this year’s group is the largest yet,” Josephson adds.
The company is seeking contributions to keep the troupe operational.
