CITYSCAPE ROUNDUP: Clinic hosts stop on bike ride
Laguna Beach Community Clinic will host some 25 bicyclists on the first stop of the 7th annual Ride for World Health on Sunday.
The 52-day ride, starting in San Diego and ending in Washington, D.C., a 45-city tour, will benefit Doctors Without Borders.
The group expects to cross Crown Valley Parkway on Coast Highway at about 11:30 a.m. and arrive at Main Beach at about 12:30 a.m., where a brief presentation will be held.
Local cyclists are invited to join the team as they approach Laguna Beach.
A community presentation will begin at 1 p.m. in the Laguna Beach Presbyterian Church, 415 Forest Ave.

Conservancy to discuss invasive plants
Landscape architect Bob Borthwick will present a slide show about invasive plant species in the Laguna Beach area, and what can be done to correct it, at the Laguna Canyon Conservancy’s dinner meeting on Monday. Invasive species drive out native plants and wildlife, endangering the greenbelt environment. Borthwick is a member of the city’s Environmental Committee, which is working on a brochure about invasive species.
Social time with no-host bar starts at 6 p.m., with dinner at 6:35 p.m. followed by the program. Dinner tickets are $15 for non-members, $10 for members, and may be paid at the door with prior reservation. Reservations may be made by calling (949) 494-6465 by Saturday.
The dinner will take place at Tivoli Terrace, on the Festival of Arts grounds, 650 Laguna Canyon Road, Laguna Beach.

Guide dog group plans benefit lunch
The Orange County Friends Committee of Guide Dogs for the Blind will host its 2nd annual “Labs and Lunch” benefit from 1 to 4 p.m. April 13 at Tivoli Too, 777 Laguna Canyon Road, Laguna Beach.
Proceeds from the event will help support veterinary care for working guide dogs and puppies-in-training in the Orange County area.
The event will include gourmet food and wine, guest speaker Nora Vitz Harrison, author of “Dear Kilroy,” a raffle and puppies.
The cost is $100 per person.
Guide Dogs for the Blind was established in 1942 to train guide dogs free of charge for blind people. For more information, visit www.guidedogs.com.

Garden Club features ‘Tuscany’ designer
Landscape designer Annie Hall will present a program titled “Tuscany in Your Garden” to the Laguna Beach Garden Club on April 11. Hall has degrees in ornamental horticulture and landscape design. Her projects include a wide range of styles “” including traditional, tropical, and Mediterranean “” however, she has become known for her Cottage and Perennial style garden designs.
The meeting will be at the Neighborhood Congregational Church, 340 St. Ann’s Drive, Laguna Beach. The gathering starts at 9:30 a.m., featuring a garden boutique. The business meeting starts at 10 a.m., followed by the speaker at 10:30 a.m. The meeting is free one time for guests. Thrift shop plans spring sale in late April
The Turnabout Thrift Shop is planning their Spring Garage Sale for April 25 and 26, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. each day. The sale is held in the area behind the shop at 526 Glenneyre St., Laguna Beach.

Taxpayers to hold annual lunch
The Laguna Beach Taxpayer’s Assn. will hold its annual luncheon meeting at noon on April 22 at the Aliso Creek Inn. The speaker is Brad Dacus of the Pacific Justice Institute. He has appeared on many television shows including “Good Morning America,” “The Today Show,” “O’Reilly Factor” and “Dateline.”
