Local tournaments continue this weekend

Hoops tournament action continues today at both Ocean View High and Fountain Valley High.

In boys’ basketball, the 37th annual Tournament of Champions at Ocean View, which began Monday, features games today and Friday and concludes with championship-round play Saturday. Twenty-three teams are vying for the title, including last year’s tournament winner, Westchester (Los Angeles). Also competing are nationally ranked teams Etiwanda and St. Mary’s of Arizona and top California teams in Ocean View, Long Beach Poly, Clovis West, Garces, Long Beach Jordan, Rancho Verde, Serra and West Valley.

The Hoops Challenge girls’ tournament hosted by Fountain Valley resumes today and Friday, leading up to Saturday’s championship action. The tournament features local teams Fountain Valley and Huntington Beach, in addition to Costa Mesa, El Modena, El Toro, Schurr, Temecula Valley and Woodbridge.

Huntington, Costa Mesa, El Modena and El Toro all claimed first-round victories Monday.

Also in girls’ basketball, Ocean View hosts its own tournament beginning Monday.
