Center Avenue post office clsoing soon
The United States Postal Service has placed a Huntington Beach post office on a list of locations being considered for closure, but a supervisor at the city’s main post office said the site has already been cleared out.
The Postal Service announced Tuesday that it would examine 3,700 post offices nationwide as it seeks to streamline its operations. The office at 7328 Center Ave. near Golden West College appears on the list.
Al Howard, the supervisor at the post office at 6771 Warner Ave., said the Center Avenue location had contained only P.O. boxes and a mail drop-off slot, and the boxes have all been moved to his location.
“That office was P.O. boxes only, so instead of paying rent for that location, we had a room here at the main office, so we moved all the P.O. boxes to this location,” Howard said. “So it’s really not a closure because of the economy. We’re just saving money as far as rent goes and moving those boxes to that location here.”
Howard said the boxes had been moved over the last week. He did not know if the Postal Service’s list had a bearing on the decision.
