Street changes aim to save water

Costa Mesa recently received grant money that will fund water-conservation changes to portions of Harbor Boulevard and in Brentwood Park.

The $88,763 from the Municipal Water District of Orange County is part of an incentive program that aims to reduce irrigation runoff, increase water efficiency and save money for property owners, according to a city news release sent out Wednesday.

Specifically, the grants will help pay for removing grass in some Harbor Boulevard medians as part of a greater beautification project for the thoroughfare. In Brentwood Park, a 2.6-acre area in the city’s Eastside, mulch and native ground cover will replace turf.

“We are continuing to take significant steps toward water conservation and efficient use of this precious resource,” Public Services Director Ernesto Munoz said in the release. “Many measures have already been implemented, but much more remains to be done.”
