Motorcyclist dies in second bike fatality in a week
A motorcyclist died Tuesday after colliding with another vehicle in Fountain Valley, according to authorities.
It is the second traffic fatality involving a motorcycle within five days.
David Pascarella, 45, of Irvine, was found unresponsive about 4:30 p.m. at Ellis Avenue and Bushard Street.
Paramedics were unable to resuscitate him, and he was pronounced dead at the scene, according to a Fountain Valley police statement.
Police said Pascarella was traveling eastbound on Ellis approaching Bushard. The other vehicle, a Saturn sedan, was making a left turn onto Bushard from westbound Ellis.
Witnesses told authorities that the motorcyclist had run a red light when it collided with the other vehicle.
Preliminary investigations show that drugs and alcohol were not factors in the incident, police said.
Tuesday’s collision marks the second traffic fatality involving a motorcycle within a week, with both incidents closely mirroring one another.
On Friday, a motorcyclist died after colliding with an SUV at Slater and Magnolia avenues.
Witnesses told police that the victim in that incident, Hovig Akmakjian, 22, of Santa Ana, had run a red light when he collided with the vehicle.
