Easter-themed event brings community together in La Crescenta
It was fun and games for kids — and even the adults — during an Easter egg hunt at La Crescenta’s Two Strike Park on Saturday.
About 200 people came out for a sunny day of Easter-themed activities, including a coloring contest, Easter basket giveaway and the chance to snap a photo with the Easter Bunny.
“Everyone’s enjoying themselves,” said Abel Garnica, park supervisor with the Los Angeles County Department of Parks and Recreation, which put together the day’s activities. “If you look around, everyone is having a good time.”

The main attraction was more of a race than a hunt, with the shelled treats littering an open field and children shooting across the grass, picking up as many as they could. The eggs didn’t stand a chance.
Montrose resident Eric Escott brought his son, Walter, and daughter, Hazel, to the egg hunt after family friend Jessica Joiner saw a sign at the park the day prior. He said such events are important for the community-building they provide.
“It gets everybody out,” Escott said. “Everybody’s having fun.”
“I had a strategy,” 7-year-old Walter said. “Run through the crowd and pick up all the eggs, then run back through the crowd and pick up all the eggs.”
A bold move, but sitting in the grass with his basket of eggs, Walter seemed content with his haul.
Every age group got a turn to join the hunt, including the adults, some of whom seemingly got more into it than their kids.
One reason for the added excitement was that some of the eggs contained a “golden ticket,” as Garnica put it, which would earn them one of 35 Easter gift baskets.
Kimberly Armstrong-Fiallo of La Crescenta huddled together with her daughter, Isabella, and her Japanese tutor, Keisuke, to take stock of the egg harvest.
“We didn’t earn any tickets,” Isabella said. But her mom was more optimistic.
“We had a lot of fun,” Armstrong-Fiallo said. “I love that La Crescenta does this for people.”
