Glendale sees its first reported death from COVID-19
A 65-year-old Glendale resident with underlying conditions has died from COVID-19, caused by the novel coronavirus, according to the L.A. County Department of Public Health.
The death, the first reported in the city, was one of two new deaths related to the virus that causes COVID-19 reported by county officials on Monday, bringing the total to seven. There have been nine cases of the virus confirmed in Glendale and 536 across the county.
The other individual who passed away was between 30 and 50 years old, from a location that is still under investigation.
“This is serious. Stay home and save lives,” the city tweeted from its official account, along with the news of the death.
“We express our deepest condolences to the family and friends grieving their loved ones during this difficult time. Our thoughts and prayers are with them.” Glendale Mayor Ara Najarian said in a statement.
“COVID-19 is a serious disease, and I’d like to remind our community that to protect the health and lives of our loved ones, particularly those at highest risk, we must follow public health orders and stay home,” he added.
Following orders from the county, Glendale has implemented measures intended to reduce the spread of the virus, including shuttering all non-essential businesses and limiting the size of most gatherings to 10 and under. Restaurants are restricted to serving takeout and to-go items only.
