White’s painting of a toddler, titled “Ayden,” will be displayed at the U.S. Capitol with other top congressional winners from across the country.
Fellow student Shakeh Aslanyan, who attends Clark Magnet High School, placed second for her oil painting titled “As I Am,” which will hang in Schiff’s Washington, D.C. office.
Annabel Lawton Boardman, a student at the Los Angeles County High School for the Arts, placed third for her linocut print titled “Good Kid Moon Man.” Her piece will be displayed in Schiff’s district office in Burbank.
Meanwhile, the “People’s Choice” award went to Michael Tufenkian, who attends Maranatha High School in Pasadena, for his photograph of the Sixth Street Bridge. It will hang in Schiff’s Hollywood office.
The Congressional Art Competition was established in 1982. Locally, students from 22 schools submitted 56 pieces of artwork this year.
“Each year, it is a thrill to see young artists in our community showcase their talent,” Schiff said in a statement. “Every student involved in this competition deserves recognition, and I hope that they will all continue to enrich our community with their artwork.”
