Glendale city manager may resign for similar position in another city

City Manager Scott Ochoa notified city employees Friday that he may leave his job in Glendale, held since January 2012, for the same position in another city.

In an email, Ochoa told city employees that he is a finalist for a city manager’s position in another unnamed city. Ochoa said that, if selected, he would express his gratitude to city employees for all they do in service to the Glendale community.

“Until then, however, I really would not — and truly could not — be able to convey in an email or memo my sincere appreciation for your support, professionalism and dedication to Glendale over these last six years,” Ochoa said in his email.

Officials in the prospective city are expected to vote Oct. 3 on who to hire as their new city manager, according to the email. Should the city hire Ochoa, he said he would resign, and his last day in Glendale would be Nov. 17.

According to city of Glendale spokesman Dan Bell, the City Council would then decide on how to fill the position, with options that would include recruit from outside the city, hire a permanent employee from within or post an interim position.

Before coming to Glendale, Ochoa served as Monrovia’s city manager from 2004 until the end of 2011.
