Two men arrested after reportedly breaking into Glendale home, fleeing from police
A pair of Pasadena men were arrested Thursday night after reportedly breaking into a Glendale home, occupied by a mother and her two young children, then fleeing through neighboring yards before they were finally apprehended, police said.
Glendale police responded to a residential burglary in progress on the 2200 block of Sherwood Place at 9:39 p.m. The resident, a 41-year-old woman, was home with her 4-year-old daughter and newborn baby boy when she heard her side gate open. When she turned on a light, she saw a man through a window.
The woman called 9-1-1 and took her children to hide in a bedroom, where she remained on the phone with police and reportedly heard glass breaking from somewhere inside the home.
Multiple units, a police helicopter and K-9 teams responded to the scene and received assistance from the Burbank Police Department K-9 unit to set up a perimeter.
The police helicopter spotted two suspects running through neighboring properties, prompting phone calls from residents. Despite several commands to stop, the suspects continued to flee, according to a release from the Glendale Police Department.
Two K-9 teams canvassed the area and were able to locate the suspects, identified as 20-year-old Joshua Muema and 26-year old Michael McCray, on the 3100 block of Emerald Isle.
Muema and McCray were arrested and booked on suspicion of burglary. Both have “extensive” criminal histories, according to the release, with McCray serving prison time for robbery and Muema currently on parole for residential burglary.
Police found a broken window in the victim’s master bedroom. They also discovered a silver 2007 BMW with paper plates registered to McCray on Kirkham Drive, near the victim’s home.
Detectives are currently investigating a possible connection between the incident and recent burglaries on the city’s east side, including two home break-ins reported roughly a quarter mile apart Tuesday night. Glendale police will also be working with the Crescenta Valley Sheriff’s Station to determine if the incident is related to a string of burglaries in La Crescenta and La Cañada Flintridge, according to Glendale Police Department spokesperson Tahnee Lightfoot.
