Glendale Unified student takes fifth place in spelling bee
A Glendale Unified student who participated in the Los Angeles County Spelling Bee on Wednesday after becoming Glendale Unified’s spelling-bee champion for the second straight year, placed in the top five during the county competition.

June Musurlian was one of nine female contestants of the 25 contestants in grades four through six who competed in Downey. June was also the last girl standing in the competition, said her father, Peter Musurlian.
Ultimately, the word that stumped the fifth-grade, R.D. White student was “chicane.”
Her fifth-place finish this year, however, was better than her seven-way tie for sixth place during last year’s county competition.
La Cañada Elementary student Gabriel Gottheim won the county bee after correctly spelling “demarcate” and “memorabilia.”
