Fountain Valley council OKs purchase of new city vehicles

The Fountain Valley City Council unanimously approved Tuesday spending about $178,000 to buy six new vehicles from a Sacramento dealership.
The vehicles from Downtown Ford Sales will replace a Ford F-250 truck, Ford Ranger pickup truck and Hyundai Sonata, all bought between 1999 and 2004, that have mechanical and electrical issues, according to city staff.
They will also replace three eco-friendly cars, which will have expired cylinders by October. City officials said they believe replacing those three was more financially feasible than replacing the expired cylinders at a cost of up to $13,000, which would exceed the value of the cars, according to a staff report.
The vehicles were used by Fountain Valley’s police, public works and purchasing departments.
