La Cañada Summer Success Fair helps students plan ahead
Twenty-five organizations and businesses participated in the inaugural La Cañada Summer Success Fair for parents and their children seeking summer programs and volunteer opportunities for students in grades kindergarten through high school.
The event, held Saturday, March 12 at the La Cañada Unified School District office on Cornishon Avenue, was hosted by Learning Ladder and Student Planning Services.
Participants included Assistance League of Flintridge, Boy Scouts of America — Verdugo Hills, Catalina Island Camp, Child Educational Center, Community Center of La Cañada Flintridge, Flintridge Bookstore and Coffee House, Foothill Chinese School, Foothill Hoops Basketball, Girl Scouts of America, La Cañada Flintridge Country Club, La Cañada Flintridge Educational Foundation Summer School, La Cañada Flintridge Scholarship Foundation, La Cañada Presbyterian Church Vacation Bible Camp, L.A, County Fire Department, Learning Ladder, Lee Shin Tae Kwon Do, St. Bede Vacation Bible Camp, Special Olympics, Sport Chalet Scuba Classes, Student Planning Services, Tom Sawyer Camps, UCode and USC Verdugo Hills Hospital.
The fair, sponsored by Sport Chalet, included $5,000 in raffle prizes and several of the vendors also offered special discounts that day. Complimentary coffee was provided by Don Francisco Coffee and wood-fired pizza was cooked on site by Ali-Catering. Students from St. Francis, La Cañada and Crescenta Valley high schools served as volunteers, assisting the vendors.
