Washington receiver DeSean Jackson suffered a left ankle injury Wednesday during a training camp walk-through and could miss the Redskins’ first preseason game Thursday against the New England Patriots.

Jackson was lined up against new Patriots cornerback Darrelle Revis during a joint team practice when he made a cut inside and tweaked his ankle, according to the Washington Post. Jackson was cut by the Philadelphia Eagles during the off-season despite making his third Pro Bowl last season.

Jackson, a product of Long Beach Poly and California, led the Eagles with 82 receptions for 1,332 yards and nine touchdowns last season.

First-year Head Coach Jay Gruden downplayed the severity of Jackson’s injury, saying the wideout twisted his ankle “just a hair.”

While Jackson’s status for Thursday’s game is uncertain, the Redskins do know they will be without the services of No. 2 wide receiver Pierre Garcon, who is nursing a hamstring injury.

Behind them on the depth chart Washington has veterans Santana Moss and former Arizona Cardinal Andre Roberts. The Redskins’ receiving corps also features fifth-round draft pick Ryan Grant out of Tulane.

The Redskins suffered through a 3-13 season last year as quarterback Robert Griffin III struggled through his second season under center after making a comeback from an ACL and LCL injury during the playoffs the previous season.
