Clippers guard Milos Teodosic out indefinitely with torn plantar fascia in left foot
Starting starting point guard Milos Teodosic suffered a torn plantar fascia in his left foot and has been ruled out indefinitely.
The team said that Teodosic will be re-evaluated in two weeks. The NBA regular season ends April 11, meaning that Teodosic’s next update would come right before the playoffs start. The Clippers are pushing for one of the Western Conference’s final playoff spots.
The Clippers also announced that rookie point guard Jawun Evans is out because of a sports hernia. There is no timetable for his return.
“Obviously we have to keep winning to get them back,” Clippers coach Doc Rivers said about Teodosic and Evans. “Jawun, that’ll be a little harder with his injury. But there’s not a lot you can do about it. I don’t think about it much.”
When Teodosic injured his left foot in the second game of the season, he missed 22 games. He missed three more games in January with the same injury.
Teodosic re-aggravated the plantar fascia injury during the second quarter of a game against the Milwaukee Bucks on Tuesday night at Staples Center.
Teodosic had started to become more aggressive in the last five games for the Clippers. He was averaging 12.6 points per game and 2.8 assists over that span and was shooting 48.8% from the field, 48.1% from three-point range and 80% from the free-throw line.
Thornwell’s new role
Having so many injuries in the backcourt has forced Sindarius Thornwell to be a point guard at times for the Clippers.
Thornwell is best known for his defense and rebounding. Rivers has thrust Thornwell into a new role and has seen his rookie handle the duties just fine.
“Sindarius has been great,” Rives said. “We’re asking him to go out and guard the best players at times. We’re asking him to play backup point guard at times. With Milos and Jawun out, we’re down to basically Austin [Rivers] and Ty [Wallace] and they start.
“We’re playing like this little revolving door with them. But there are points in the game where they both may be out of the game and Sindarius has to bring the ball up the floor.”
