Dodgers reliever Adam Liberatore to undergo season-ending elbow surgery
Unlikely to make the Dodgers’ postseason roster, left-handed reliever Adam Liberatore will undergo season-ending surgery to remove damaged tissue from his left elbow on Tuesday, the team announced. Dr. Neal ElAttrache will perform the debridement. The team indicated Liberatore would be ready for next season.
Liberatore, 29, set a franchise record this summer with 28 consecutive scoreless appearances. But his elbow began to ache during the streak, and he went on the disabled list at the end of July.
Upon his return, Liberatore posted a 9.64 earned-run average in 14 appearances. He lost his spot in the Dodgers’ bullpen hierarchy to rookie Grant Dayton.
The Dodgers could still carry four left-handers against Washington, with Dayton, Alex Wood, Julio Urias and Luis Avilan all capable of making the team.
