Dodgers near deals with their top draft picks

The Dodgers are close to announcing deals with their first two picks in this year’s draft, according to people familiar with the situation.

The deals with first-rounder Chris Anderson and second-rounder Tom Windle could be announced as early as Wednesday afternoon, one of the people said.

Anderson will be paid a $2.1-million bonus. Windle will receive approximately $970,000.

Both are pitchers. Anderson, a 6-foot-4 right-hander from Jacksonville University, was selected 18th overall. Windle, a 6-foot-4 left-hander from the University of Minnesota, was taken with the 56th overall pick.

Scouting director Logan White has compared the hard-throwing Anderson to power pitchers such as Roger Clemens and Curt Schilling.

A junior at the University of Jacksonville, Anderson had a year of college eligibility remaining. But he said last week, “I’m pretty set on turning pro.”

Anderson, 20, said he has never had a serious arm injury.

Anderson’s uncle, Chris Simdorn, won the Harlon Hill Trophy as the best Division II football player as a quarterback at North Dakota State.
