Dodgers come back to win on big night for Jaime Jarrín and Freddie Freeman
How joyful. How fitting. With the Dodgers already having achieved nearly every conceivable regular-season goal — and adding victory No. 110 by the end of the night — Saturday provided an opportunity to honor a broadcaster employed by the franchise for 64 years and a player in his first Dodgers season.
Jaime Jarrín, the Dodgers’ Hall of Fame Spanish-language broadcaster since 1959, was the subject of an emotional, lengthy pregame ceremony at Dodger Stadium. Jarrín, 86, will retire at the end of the season, and his immense popularity throughout baseball and the Dodgers fan base was celebrated.
Fellow broadcasters, politicians, and actor-activist Edward James Olmos took turns saluting Jarrín in person and via video, conveying their affection for his six-plus decades of warmth, dignity and professionalism. Yasiel Puig even sent a dispatch from South Korea, where he is now playing.
Dodgers take lead on Joey Gallo’s bases-loaded sacrifice fly
Joey Gallo pushed the Dodgers into the lead with a bases-loaded sacrifice fly and Cody Bellinger drove in another run to make it 6-4 Dodgers in the eighth inning.
The struggles continue for the Colorado bullpen. Trea Turner and Freddie Freeman opened the eighth with singles off Rockies reliever Gavin Hollowell before Trayce Thompson drew a walk — the Dodgers’ 10th walk of the game.
Gallo then punched the Dodgers into the lead when he laced the ball into center field, giving the speedy Turner ample time to make it home. After Austin Barnes popped out to first, Bellinger singled on a line drive to right, scoring Freeman and ending Hollowell’s outing.
Gavin Lux flied out to left with the bases loaded to cap the frame.
The Dodgers have scored four runs tonight without a hit.
⚾ End of the eighth: Dodgers 6, Rockies 4
Dodgers capitalize on Colorado pitching woes to tie game
Colorado pitchers gave up a pair of bases-loaded walks and allowed the tying run to score on a Cody Bellinger sacrifice fly to make it 4-4 after seven innings.
Dinelson Lamet opened the inning by walking Trea Turner, Freddie Freeman and Trayce Thompson, prompting Rockies manager Bud Black to yank him in favor of Chad Smith, who then walked Joey Gallo and Austin Barnes to plate a pair of runs.
An intense-looking mound talk from Rockies pitching coach Darryl Scott didn’t make things better for Smith, with Bellinger driving in Thompson on sacrifice fly to center.
Smith’s night ended after the next at-bat when he walked Max Muncy to reload the bases for a third time — the ninth Dodgers walk of the game.
Reliever Gavin Hollowell was then summoned and he struck out Gavin Lux and got Mookie Betts to ground out, leaving three stranded for the Dodgers.
⚾ End of the seventh: Rockies 4, Dodgers 4
Rockies jump into lead with pair of home runs
Colorado’s Randal Grichuk hit a three-run home run and Ryan McMahon hit a solo blast off Dodgers starter Michael Grove to give the Rockies a 4-1 lead in the fourth inning.
McMahon led off the inning with his 20th home run of the season. After C.J. Cron and Brendan Rodgers singled, Grichuk hit his 18th home run of the season off a visibly frustrated Grove.
⚾ End of the fourth: Rockies 4, Dodgers 1
Freddie Freeman pushes Dodgers into early lead
Freddie Freeman drove in the Dodgers’ first run Saturday on his 195th hit of the season — a single to center field that scored Mookie Betts from second — to give L.A. a 1-0 lead in the third inning.
Betts opened the inning with his 40th double of the season, lining a first-pitch sinker from Rockies starter Kyle Freeland into the right-field corner.
Ceremony honors legendary Dodgers broadcaster Jamie Jarrín for his 64-year career
Hall-of-Famer Spanish-language broadcaster Jamie Jarrín was honored in an extended pregame ceremony for his 64 years behind the microphone with the Dodgers.
Politicians, fellow broadcasters, actors and Dodgers brass took turns saluting Jarrín and conveying their affection for his warmth, dignity and professionalism.
Oh, and Yasiel Puig via video from South Korea, where he playing in the professional league there.
Jarrín, 86, will retire at the end of the season.

Dodgers set starting rotation for the rest of the regular season
The Dodgers have set their starting rotation for the rest of the regular season: Tyler Anderson will start Sunday with Tony Gonsolin coming off the injured list to start Monday.
Julio Urias will start Tuesday with Andrew Heaney coming on in bulk relief. Clayton Kershaw is scheduled to start the finale Wednesday, although his pitch count might be limited.
After he threw six scoreless innings Friday night, Kershaw said he would “have a conversation” with coaches about starting Wednesday. Roberts said he hadn’t yet had that conversation with his star left-hander.
Dodgers lineup goes through double makeover ahead of the first pitch
The Dodgers lineup changed twice before the game. Originally, Dave Roberts had Justin Turner returning after sitting out Friday because of a left leg contusion. But Turner asked him for another day off and Roberts obliged, inserting Gavin Lux to play second base and moving Hanser Alberto from second to third.
The next change came when left fielder Chris Taylor, who had three hits Friday and was going to bat cleanup, suffered neck tightness. Trayce Thompson was bumped up to cleanup and moved from center field to left with Cody Bellinger batting seventh and playing center.
The final lineup also flip-flopped Lux and Alberto. Lux will bat ninth with Alberto eighth.
Rookie Miguel Vargas is batting fifth as the designated hitter and Austin Barnes is catching and batting sixth. The top three in the lineup are regulars Mookie Betts, Trea Turner and Freddie Freeman.
Rookie Michael Grove is the starting pitcher. Grove went four innings in his last start while fighting off an illness. Roberts said he planned to push Grove’s pitch count Saturday.

Dodgers shift into October mode weighing pros and cons of well-deserved days off
Spring in October? It seems like it for the Dodgers, whose next meaningful game will take place in 11 days.
Until then call it the California Cactus League. The Dodgers will follow their 10-1 romp over the Colorado Rockies on Friday night with five more games against those same purple-clad foes. The regular season ends Wednesday followed by five off days with the Dodgers relegated to intrasquad games.
The National League Division Series begins Oct. 11 against the winner of a best-of-three wild card series. While waiting, the Dodgers will spend every day at home, sleeping in their own beds and reporting to Dodger Stadium for duty until hitting the road for Game 3 of the NLDS.
